Frequently Asked Questions
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a form of primary healthcare that focuses on understanding and supporting the underlying factors contributing to health concerns. Care is individualized and may include nutrition, lifestyle support, targeted supplementation, and when appropriate, functional or conventional testing.
The goal is to improve how the body is functioning over time, rather than focusing only on symptom management.
What can I expect from a first visit?
The initial visit is a comprehensive assessment of your health history, current concerns, and goals. We take time to understand patterns in your symptoms, as well as factors such as sleep, stress, digestion, and overall resilience.
If appropriate, testing may be recommended. Together, we develop a plan that is thoughtful, realistic, and aligned with your preferences.
Do you only treat specific conditions?
No. While many patients seek support for concerns related to hormones, fatigue, digestion, or mental health, my practice is integrative and general in scope.
I often work with individuals whose symptoms don’t fit neatly into one category, or who are looking for a more comprehensive understanding of their health.
How is this different from conventional medical care?
Naturopathic care is designed to complement, not replace, conventional medicine. It allows more time to explore patterns, contributing factors, and lifestyle influences, and often focuses on prevention and long-term health.
When appropriate, I collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure care is safe, coordinated, and aligned.
How do you approach mental and emotional health?
Mental and emotional health are closely connected to physical health, including factors such as sleep, hormones, digestion, and stress physiology. My approach is to explore these connections alongside your lived experience, rather than viewing mental health in isolation.
Care may include support for sleep and circadian rhythm, nutritional and digestive health, hormonal balance, metabolic function, and stress response. This can involve lifestyle and dietary strategies, targeted supplementation when appropriate, and the use of functional or conventional testing to better understand contributing factors. Gentle mind-body approaches and nervous system support may also be incorporated where helpful.
This work is not a replacement for psychotherapy or medications, but can be an integrative approach for those looking to better understand and support the biological aspects of how they are feeling.
Do you prescribe a lot of supplements?
Not necessarily. Supplements are used selectively and thoughtfully, based on your individual needs and goals.
Whenever possible, the focus is on building a sustainable foundation through nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted interventions rather than relying on multiple long-term supplements.
Will I need to follow a restrictive diet?
Dietary changes are sometimes helpful, but they are approached carefully and collaboratively. When modifications are recommended, they are typically introduced as short-term strategies to gather information, with the goal of maintaining flexibility and sustainability over time.
How long does it take to see results?
This depends on your starting point and the nature of your concerns. Some people notice changes relatively quickly, while others benefit from a more gradual, staged approach.
The focus is on steady, sustainable progress rather than quick fixes.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
